Nothing says Christmas like glitter. And fairy lights. And Home Alone. And mulled wine. But mainly glitter, sprinkle it all over everything and spread festive cheer wherever you go. Some people don’t share my love of glitter quite as much as I do, but I plan on doing a few super ultra glitter nails over the next few weeks… In the meantime here’s a more low-key take on a festive glittery manicure.
It’s my sister’s graduation today (WELL DONE LITTLE SIS!) and her dress is a lovely deep red shade so I did her nails in the most similar shade I have – Max Factor’s ultra shiny gel shine lacquers (see some more swatches here) in ‘Radiant Ruby’. With a little accent glitter nail to add some glitz, obviously.
This is the first time I’ve actually used loose glitter to create this effect, I usually layer up glitter polishes to try achieve this effect but it never really works as well. I just applied some cheap silver base and used my finger to pat on the loose glitter after a second or two so the polish would be tacky and allow the glitter to stick. Any gaps I just applied a clear polish on top & dabbed more glitter on.
BE WARNED – glitter will go everywhere when you attempt this, put down some paper to collect the excess! It ended up in my topcoat, my hair, my sister’s face… I don’t even know how. I’m looking forward to attempting a full five glitter nail hand. There will be sparkles for days.
