Feeding the Addiction: 43 (And BEA!)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. Feeding the Addiction is our version. Every Sunday, we’ll post the books that found their way into our hot little hands during the week. Some are sent for review by authors or publishers, some we borrow from the library, and others we buy (Shaunta might have a little thrift store and used book store addiction. Brian loves the library.)

I was in New York last week for my very first BEA. I had so much fun! It was crazy and crowded and full of this amazing book-loving energy. I can’t wait to go again next year. I thought I’d share some pictures here, and just list the mountain of books I picked up.

I went to my very first writer’s conference five years ago. It was an RWA National conference, one of the big, crazy ones, and it was the first time I ever met real authors in person. So many of them. Authors whose books I loved. Whose careers I aspired to. It never gets old, being in the presence, even just for as long as it takes to sign a book, of storytellers who inspire me. BEA was like that. As cool as it was to be near so many wonderful storytellers, it was just as amazing to be surrounded by so many people who truly love books.

I didn’t get a good picture of Neil Gaiman, but I did get a front row seat for his speech!

My other fan girl moment came when Diana Gabaldon signed Outlander for me. I waited in line for an hour, but it was totally worth it.

One of the coolest events at BEA was a Star Wars Reads program. It involved a hula hooping Princess Lea . . .

And a show down.

My daughter and I walked around Javits Center like this all day long. Just when we thought, that’s it, no more books–someone would hand us something irresistible.

Here’s what I got. Believe it or not, Adrienne got completely different books from me. So. Many. Books!
