A BRIEF HISTORY
Believe it or not, the Maytag guys started out building farming equipment in the late 1800's. It wasn't until 1907 that they began producing washers, meant to help the company during seasonal slumps.
Maytag is known for generating some of the most important innovations in washing machine history. Their lead developer, Howard Snyder, helped create the agitator design, forcing water through clothes, rather than pulling them through it with a dolly. The design made them a contender in the washing machine business, allowing them to stop building farm equipment.
As Maytag grew, they acquired other companies, adding several new products to their line. Then, in 2006, Maytag was acquired by Whirlpool Corporation
MAYTAG TODAY
Today, Maytag has a whole new image. As you can see in the commercial, the Maytag Man is back and better than ever. In 2014, Maytag redesigned their older, lonelier version for a younger, more active look. The new Maytag Man is always busy, acting as an actual home appliance.
According to Maytag's Senior Director of Marketing, William D. Beck, “The beauty of the Maytag Repairman is that he’s been out there for 50 years, and he is a great asset because he helps differentiate us. Instead of just remembering that you saw an ad where an oven was in a kitchen, you remember that it was for us, and that’s a brand link you never want to give up.”
THEIR MISSION
Maytag® continues to build appliances with the "tough, hard-working spirit of American dependability." They take pride in offering machines they know people can count on. Their parent company, Whirlpool, also stands for building quality products that are going to meet the unique needs of all their clients. Their founders' motto was that there is no right way to do a wrong thing, and they continue to stand on that principle today.
