A BRIEF HISTORY
Eureka was founded by Fred Wardell in the year 1909. During its first 10 years, the company flourished greatly, with its products sold at numerous retail outlets, over 3,000 door-to-door salesmen employed, and demand continuing to grow.
However, World War I, the Depression, and World War II saw Eureka floundering. This produced several mergers with other small companies in an attempt to stay afloat. Over the years, these mergers meant they sold a diverse range of products, from oil-burners, heaters, and air conditioners to school furniture and aircraft generators. They even developed the “wooden lung” in 1949.
In 1974, after 65 turbulent years of operation, Eureka was purchased by Electrolux in a bid to reenter the American market. Because of this, their sales increased and they were finally able to bounce back.
EUREKA TODAY
Eureka is considered one of the leaders in the vacuum cleaner industry, second only to Hoover. They largely concentrate on home and commercial cleaning products.
Thanks to product line extensions, they currently distribute over 100 different models of vacuums, including uprights, canisters, sticks, handhelds, steam cleaners, and home cleaning systems. Many of their models very proudly carry Energy Star certification.
They also manufacture their own accessories, providing filters, vacuum bags, attachments, and more.
THEIR MISSION
As their brand name implies, Eureka is all about innovation and discovery. Each of their models boasts technologies that aim to make cleaning more efficient.
They also have a firm commitment to improving their impact on the environment. From packaging and operations to the products themselves, they want to reduce waste, increase energy efficiency, and ultimately contribute to a more sustainable future.
