BRAND BASICS

A BRIEF HISTORY

Though the AGA cooker is seen as a quintessentially British product, it was actually invented in Sweden. In 1922, Dr. Gustaf Dalén, a blind Nobel Prize-winning physicist, wanted a cooking solution for his wife Elma, who had to tend their old-fashioned range constantly. As he put it, he wanted a cooker that would look after itself. That is why he invented the now-iconic cast-iron cooker with two large hotplates and two ovens. Only a few years later in 1929, AGA Heat Ltd. began manufacturing his brilliant idea.

The legendary and talented salesman David Ogilvy helped sales grow tremendously through the 1930s, and in 1934 the first AGA Cookbook was published. When war broke out in Europe in the 1940s, AGA cookers appeared in dozens of munition works canteens, community centers, and hospitals.

Over the years, AGA has extended their color palette, added more convenient fuel sources, and designed two- and four-oven models. Then later, these were modified into a three-oven design with one oven dedicated to baking and a five-oven model with a slow-cooking oven.

AGA TODAY

The product selection at AGA includes their traditional cookers, dual fuel ranges, French door refrigerators, dishwashers, rangehoods, and cookware. Especially popular are their Total Control cooker models.

THEIR MISSION

The foundation of AGA’s brand is its iconic design. Quality, innovation, and enrichment of family life are central to their reputation. They also promise that green issues are at the top of their agenda, which is why some of the selling points of their cookers are their longer lifespans, versatile functionality, energy efficiency, and construction from recyclable materials.
