The radiant debut, self-titled Ep from New Zealand’s Fazerdaze is one we’re sad to have missed in 2014. Written, played, sung and mixed by Amelia Meath, this versatile collection of pop songs hits soft highs and lows with Meath’s yearning, reverb-drenched vocals echoing around pronounced electric guitars. Stylistically pulling from the 90’s, each song advances patiently to it’s own balance of harsh and mellow. “Jennifer” drifts on effervescing synth to a hazy, dreamlike state while “Treading Lightly” sinks into a gravelly bassline. Guitars on overdrive bring out the frustration in “Tired of Waiting” even when interspersed with delicate ‘oo’s and ‘ah’s. This clever group of pop songs signals the start of another new artist to watch.
