I have this thing where I hate reading my old blog posts. Is anyone else plagued by this?
I’m hyper critical of myself and my writing, and if I read a blog post just one week after I publish it, I immediately cringe and think of all the ways I could have written it better. I always have to be moving forward, always improving, always getting better. Brett on the other hand, loves to read my old blog posts. I’ll catch him from time to time sitting on his computer reading posts from last year and saying things like, “Hey remember the time you wrote about_________?” I roll my eyes and say yeah and think about how terrible that post was and how much I wish I could just go through my whole blog archives and delete half of them.
As I’m typing this, I realize how ridiculous I sound. That’s the whole point of this blog, right? It’s a place to write and remember things, so when Everett’s 15 and talking back to me, I can pull up this post and reminisce about the days when he was so tiny and his head smelled so good and everything was so hard but so magical at the same time.
In an effort to get over this hating-my-old-blog-posts thing, I spent some time this weekend reading through posts from 2012. And you know what? They weren’t all terrible. Some were terrible, but not all. In fact, some of them were even fun to read again. These were my personal favorite posts from this year, in no particular order:
writers vs. bloggers
everett’s birth story
girl crush
unfrozen
we met on twitter before that was cool
for gene
dear callie
a love letter to my body
september 16th
saving my life, right now
bright yellow wings
As we bid farewell to 2012 and welcome 2013 with open arms, I am excited to continue sharing pieces of my life here. Thank you for reading, for showing up, and for offering encouragement through comments and e-mails, especially during this past year as I became a mother.
Do you blog? Link me up to your favorite post of 2012 in the comments so I can read it and say hi
