I am just a massive failure when it comes to using fake tan and have always preferred to just embrace the paleness instead of hassling myself with fake tan. I've tried everything from Fake Bake (not actually bad at all) to Famous Dave (Awful!) but I haven't ever use Xen Tan. Feeling like I might pass up on finding 'the one' if I don't try this out, I happily accepted House Of Fraser's kind offer.
I was sent:
- Xen Tan Luxury Tanning Mitt
- Xen Tan Face Tanner Luxe- 30 ml
- Xen Tan Luminous Gold Gel- 30ml
- Xen Tan Transform Luxe- 30ml
- Xen Tan Dark Lotion- 236ml
- Xen Tan Deep Bronze Luxe- 236ml
Anyways, first off, I exfoliated all over and then moved on to using the Deep Bronze Luxe. I was a little bit scared to use it as it looks quite green toned (being olive based) but I took a deep breath and put on my big girl pants..(well actually, they were Bridget Jones style, just for the application, obvs!) I applied the tan with the tanning mitt and used long sweeping motions to work it in.
A good thing to remember with this product is that a little goes a long way. It doesn't really soak into the tanning mitt the way some other tanning products do, which was a bonus because I was able to cover a whole leg with just one pump of the product. As a side note, 'pump' is just a horrible word. Moving on..
The product dried in pretty quickly and after just a few hours the tan had developed significantly. Xen Tan recommend showering after 7-8 hours, so once that time was up and I could smell like biscuits no longer, I was happy to shower and reveal my golden glow...
Now, I am the one with the dark hair (my sister is the red head) and although I look pretty pale (blame the flash lighting) and pretty damn drunk (blame the Sambuca), this was the result of my faux glow.
The color was a lovely olive tan, as if I had been on holiday for a couple of weeks. I must admit I was pretty darn pleased with how it turned out.
In terms of lasting power. I would recommend using the Transform Luxe for maintenance on a daily or second day basis just to keep your tan looking fresh for as long as possible.
For face tanning, I used the face tanner luxe which smelled amazing! I am always really scared of putting tan on my face because it goes patchy so easily but this one was pretty even and definitely has a buildable coverage so I needed to apply this two times to get my face matching the rest of my body.
If you're a bit of a tanning beginner or are a scaredy cat like me, then I would be tempted to use the dark lotion rather than the deep bronze luxe for a lighter shade which would mean you would only need one application of the facial tanner.
Have you used Xen Tan before?
