Pangong Lake
Pangong Lake is a beautiful spot located in the Changthang region of Ladakh. The lake has emerged as a famous point of interest after a scene of the Bollywood movie “3 idiots” was shot here. The crystal clear Lake remains frozen from January to March due to extreme climatic conditions. It is during April that it starts to melt down and transforms into a beautiful magical water body.
Tso Moriri
Situated in Changthang region, Tso Moriri is one of the high altitude lakes in India. The lake is held highly sacred by the ladakhis. Situated entirely into India, the broadest point of the lake is 7 km wide and has a length of 19 km. The river is a part of the wetland reserve under Ramsar site and is the highest Ramsar site in the world. Visitors are advised to carry Inner Line Permit to access this lake.
Royal Leh Palace
Leh Palace is an erstwhile royal palace that is converted into a hotel. The palace was constructed during the 17th century under the reign of King Sengge Namgyal. The nine storied palace served as the residence of the royal family. The Palace also has a Museum, which houses a rich collection of jewelry, ornaments, dresses, crowns, Chinese thangka, and paintings.
Zanskar valley
Zanskar Valley is a famous point of interest in Ladakh. The valley is a famous place known for its illustrious monasteries, castle, and traditional village. Moreover Zanskar also has scope for adventure activities like Mountaineering, Trekking, White water rafting, and Camping. Some famous attractions located here are Zongkhul, Zangla, Penzella Pass, Stongdey Monastery, and Panikhar. May to October is the best time to explore this region.
Magnetic Hill
The Magnetic Hill is situated on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik National Highway, 30 km away from Leh. There is a billboard placed near the hill by the local administration that marks this spot. The hill has properties strong enough that can pull cars uphill & force the overflying aircrafts to raise their altitude to escape the interference.
Nubra valley
The tri-armed valley of Nubra is located 10,000 ft. above sea level to the north east of Ladakh. The capital of the region is Diskit. Formed by the Shyok River and Nubra River, the valley separates Ladakh and the Karakoram Ranges. The Khardung La pass offers access to this valley from Leh town. Tourists require an Inner Line Permit to reach the valley, which can be obtained from the Leh Town DC office.
Shanti Stupa
Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist stupa located in Chanspa on a hill top. The Shanti Stupa was erected in 1991 by Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura, a Japanese Buddhist. The Shanti Stupa houses Buddha’s relics at its base, which were shrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. The Shanti Stupa is visited by an array of travelers and offers panoramic views of the nearby landscape.
Kargil
The town of Kargil serves as the headquarters of the Kargil district of Ladakh. It is the second largest town in Ladakh. Kargil is situated at an elevation of 8,780 feet alongside the banks of River Suru (Indus). A national Highway as well as an airport cuts its way through Kargil.
Khardung La
Khardung La is an elevated mountain pass and a famous attraction in Ladakh for tourists. The pass was built in 1976, and from 1988 onwards, this pass has served as a famous spot for mountain biking, automobile, motorbike expeditions.
