Fanfarlo Gets Liberated with ‘landlocked’ [free Mp3]

It’s been seven years since I first heard of British indie pop band Fanfarlo through their breakout single, “Fire Escape”, and after listening to their newest single, “Landlocked”, I can say they’ve changed a lot — and for the better. Both tracks feature glossy synths and a peppering of the eclectic instrumentation the band is known for utilizing, but it sounds like the two tracks come from completely different bands

The biggest difference is that “Landlocked” is packed to the brim with fun-loving energy their earlier numbers didn’t have. Lead singer Simon Balthazar is finally embracing his Curt Smith-esque Tears for Fears vocals, and the band is experimenting with instruments that don’t exactly feel “cool” but sound great. Sexy sax, steel drum and cheesy yells make this a track you actually want to dance to, not just reservedly nod in approval with.
