Family Friendly Days Out in the West Midlands

By Smilinglikesunshine @smilinglikesuns
The West Midlands are a great place to visit for a family break. Big cities surrounded by beautiful countryside, lots of dedicated children's play areas, farms, indoor play centres, zoos, action challenges and more, offer the perfect recipe for a fun packed holiday. Book a hotel somewhere central like Birmingham (click here for some great value family friendly hotels), and enjoy exploring the city and the surrounding area. Some great places to visit during your stay are:
Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth
Drayton Manor is home to Apocalypse, said to be the scariest ride in the whole of the UK. It’s a 54 meter high drop tower that drops you at G Force 4 – thrilling, just don't eat directly before going on it! You’ll also find numerous other exhilarating rides like the pirate ship The Bounty, fast paced gyro-swing The Maelstrom, Shockwave, a stand up rollercoaster, Stormforce 10, the UK's first reverse chute water coaster, and the new for 2014 Air Race thrill ride. Drayton Manor is also home to a range of more sedate rides perfectly geared towards children of all ages, like the Ben 10 coaster, as well as Thomas Land, a magical themed land all Thomas the Tank Engine fans will adore. Little animals lovers will also get to see over a hundred species of animal here from all over the world at the Drayton Manor Zoo, so there really is something for all the family!
Imagination Street, Bromsgrove
If it just so happens to rain while you're away and you need something to keep the kids entertained for a few hours, look no further than Imagination Street. This fantastic indoor play center goes above and beyond what you'd expect from run of the mill soft play centres. With an amazing baby sensory room, giant climbing frame and soft play area, interactive football zone, zip wires, formula one race track, playstation and library rooms, along with their fabulous imagination zones and role play areas, it really is a great place for kids to explore.
Sandwell Valley Country Park, West Bromwich
This amazing country park offers so much more than a nice walk in the countryside. There are two working farms, visitor centres, an aerial assault course, adventure playground, RSPB visitor centre, cycle hire, horse riding, pitch and putt, crazy golf, tennis courts and football pitches. At Forge Mill Farm you can see lots of farm animals, play in the kids play area, take a wander around the farm and see what takes your fancy in the farm shop. Sandwell Park Farm is a beautifully restored Victorian farm and is home to a number of rare breeds, a traditional farmyard, a pretty kitchen garden and a museum. You can even grab some refreshments in the tea rooms here - perhaps treat yourselves to lunch, or maybe tea and cake to recharge your batteries after exploring the country park all day. Sandwell Valley Country Park really does have it all and makes the perfect outdoor activity day for all the family.
Back in Birmingham itself why not pay a visit to the Sea Life Centre, Star City, which is a huge indoor entertainment center featuring everything from climbing to bowling and laser combat to funfair rides, or Ackers Adventure Outdoor Activity Centre, which plays host to canoeing, skiing, tobogganing, climbing archery and more. You really will be spoilt for choice in terms of places to visit and have fun with the kids on your trip to the West Midlands.
