Falling In Love With Suffolk

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

Autumn can be the finest of all the seasons, although it can get hidden behind the hope of Spring and the warmth of the Summer sun. Suffolk offers the best of all worlds in Autumn, as you can watch nature prepare for the winter ahead in both coast and country. And, with some of the most spectacular times of the day coming just after sunrise and before sunset, you'll want to make the most of your stay in one of our holiday cottages in Suffolk.

Leaf Peeping In Suffolk
Save yourself a trans-Atlantic flight and explore the fabulous changing colours of the trees closer to home. Suffolk is awash with burnt Ombres, reds and golds as our trees give us a spectacular show before they shed for another year. While you will be able to enjoy it from anywhere in the county, it is well worth experiencing the Fall colours in one of Suffolk's National Trust sites. Orvis Wood at Flatford will not only provide a fabulous display of changing colours, but it's also the same area that inspired some of John Constable's landscape paintings. You'll be walking in a living work of art.

N For Nature
Helen MacDonald's best-selling book, 'H for Hawk', featured the Brecklands and followed the author's intimate relationship with the natural world around her. The Brecklands does make for perfect birdwatching country, but all of Suffolk makes the perfect backdrop to watch nature at one of its busiest times of the year.

Bradfield Woods is an outstanding Site of Special Scientific Interest, nestled between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket in Suffolk. Made up of the separate parts of Felsham Hall and Monkspark Woods, Hedge Wood and Chensil Grove, Bradfield Woods is one of Britain's finest ancient woodlands. As a working wood, you will be able to wander along trails that crisscross a wood that has been providing wood through coppicing since 1252. Keep an eye out for local hazel wood products. Known for coppicing, the thick growth provided as the tress regenerate creates a fabulous habitat for songbirds, including the garden and willow warblers, and local stoats and badgers.

Seasonal Seas
Within moments of breath-taking countryside scenery, you can swap a skyline for a watery horizon. Suffolk's coast can be changeable at this time of year - but in the very best way. A calm and quiet day can offer the perfect setting for a gentle stroll by the seaside, with weather that might even be warm enough for fish and chips while perched on a sea wall.

When the sea changes, visitors thrill from the energy of the rollers as they crash on the shore. Autumn tides can bring wonderfully blowy and invigorating days where a walk at the coast can chase away the cobwebs, without bringing any rainfall with it. With cafes and coffee shops providing snacks and warming drinks to power you through the day, you can explore knowing that you will end your day, warm and dry, in your beautiful cottage.
