Facebook Drama & Blog Business.

By Agadd @ashleegadd

I have a constant love-hate relationship with Facebook, yet I still check it almost every day, just to see what’s new and exciting in the world. Also I don’t know anyone’s birthdays, so that’s helpful I guess. It’s oddly addicting, that Facebook.

I used to work in marketing and Facebook was A Big Deal. We tracked our likes and comments and my overall job performance was loosely based on how well our Facebook account was doing.

From that standpoint, I have learned to embrace what Facebook has to offer me professionally. I set up a photography fan page in December of 2011 and slowly started promoting my photography, but I would ignore it for months at a time and didn’t really care that much. It seemed like one more thing to do, one more thing to update.

Then I threw out a survey to you, the blog readers, the Where My Heart Resides community, to see if you wanted me to make a Facebook page. Quite a few of you said yes, although most of you marked “Facebook is the devil” and/or no. I put the idea of a blog Facebook page on the back burner, and then realized a few months ago that on my personal Facebook page, under employer, where I put “Ashlee Gadd Creative”, it linked to a blank page with 7 likes.

Ugh.

So then I thought, maybe I should create a NEW Facebook page for Ashlee Gadd Creative, a place where I can post blog updates AND photography, and stop clogging up my personal Facebook page and annoying all of my male friends who couldn’t care less about my mommy posts.

But that seemed like too much work.

So THEN, I did some research and realized that if your page has under 200 likes, you can CHANGE the name! And that’s when being lazy with your Facebook page pays off, because I DID have under 200 likes on my photography page.

All that being said, I now have ONE Facebook page for Ashlee Gadd Creative, which is representative of my blog, my freelance writing, and my photography. I hope to use this page to foster a better community for Where My Heart Resides readers, to encourage ongoing conversations outside the comments, and to provide a tiny joy-filled space in your daily Facebook routine. I might even post occasional videos of Everett, just to make you smile on a Friday.

So, if you’d like to be a part of my Facebook community (pun intended), you can “like” me here. And if you’re feeling extra saucy, you can post a joke or something. I love jokes.

(Hate Facebook? No problem. This will not affect you in any way. Carry on.)
