Explore The Elements Photo Contest

By Littlebckpacker @littlebckpacker

I love a good photo competition, the only problem I have is actually choosing which photos to enter because I always have too many to chose from. The situation was no different for this competition and this post has been sat in my drafts for at least two weeks now. That being said I had to make a decision or risk missing the finish date. So here are my photo entries for each category of the explore the elements competition being run by Thomas Cook.

Earth

Represents the hard, solid objects of the earth Associated with stubbornness, collectiveness , physicality and gravity

Explore the elements - earth

This shot from Glencoe in Scotland is my choice for earth. I’ve always thought of earth as green with hard and stubborn physical objects. This shot sums this up completely and if you haven’t been to Glencoe then you should because just driving through is an experience I can’t describe.

Water

Represents the fluid, flowing, formless things in the world Associated with emotion, defensiveness, adaptability, flexibility, suppleness, and magnetism

IMG_6195 EDIT

Picking a photo for this category was the hardest, I looked at beautiful images I’ve taken of flowing water from waterfalls but at the end of the day water to me is the ocean. I’ve always had a huge love for the ocean and the ocean has been so important to me traveling so for sentimental reasons I’ve chosen to feature a photo of the ocean for this category. There was no better picture to show off how amazing the ocean can be, than this shot of Whitehaven Beach.

Fire

Represents the energetic, forceful, moving things in the world Associated with security, motivation, desire, intention, and an outgoing spirit

Explore The Elements - FIRE

This shot from the beach in Ko Phi Phi is my choice for fire. Every night these guys would put on a fire show and using a chain with a ball of fire on the end they would create this circular motion. The sparks of fire would shoot off in all direction and had me memorised each time. I never expected to capture the scene so well but this picture is a perfect capture of that moment on the beach.

Air

Represents things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement Associated with will, elusiveness, evasiveness, benevolence, compassion, and wisdom

explore the elements - air

This photo, I took while trekking the Tongariro Crossing in New Zealand. We climbed so high in the snow and ice that by the time we hit this, the highest point it felt like were above the clouds. There was such freedom on top of that mountain as the sun glistened off of the snow it seemed the perfect image to represent air.

I now nominate the following bloggers to take part in this awesome competition

Emily from The Cosy Traveller
Kirsten from Kirst Over The World
Beverley from Pack Your Passport
Neil from Backpacks and Bunkbeds
Chris from Backpack Banter
