EXID Release New Version of Breakout Hit 'Up & Down' After Sexy Viral Video Success
Posted on the 23 February 2015 by ImorfyIn 2012, Billboard identified EXID as the rookie girl group with the best single of the year when "Every Night" ranked high on the annual 20 Best K-Pop Songs list. It took a few years, but the quintet is finally getting their due shine.
EXID followed up "Every Night" with a quirky, trumpet-y new single "Up & Down" in August 2014, almost two years later. Initially, the track had mediocre success on the charts and didn't make for much of a comeback. But months later, the song became a surprise hit when a fan-recorded live performance of "Up & Down" started going viral on South Korea social media.
The recording (or "fancam" as it's known to K-pop fans) focused solely on EXID member Hani, who got hearts racing with with her sensual stage attitude and seductive dance moves. The original video -- which looks it was recorded on an iPhone -- has more than 8 million views on YouTube:
Proving the power of a viral video, "Up & Down" began racing back up the charts and led to the girls promoting their single once again on television and music chart shows in late 2014 and early 2015.
EXID's visibility has only increased since, with many considering EXID one of 2014's breakout stars despite being a three-year-old group now. Even electronics giant LG booked EXID to promote their new LG U+ phone with a new recording and video of "Up & Down" that sees the girls adding new, cell phone-centric lyrics to their hit.
Check out the new version of "Up & Down" below that, which, of course, comes chock-full of shots of Hani & Co. doing their best sexy dance to date
