I hate exhaust. The belching, billowing clouds of particulate matter that issue forth from the tail pipes of older cars, delivery trucks, diesels, and all other guilty parties. Clean diesel and natural gas powered delivery trucks do little to combat the choking plume that many vehicles expel from their exhaust system. It’s no surprise why so few people walk. Who wants to suck a lung full of grime and smog. There’s a reason I don’t go up to the tailpipe of cars and take a deep breath, it’s nasty.
Having been to Europe and walking the streets where smokers abound, I’ve had a similar experience. It’s not much consolation that walking is an accepted mode of transportation there either when you need a pneumonectomy (lung removal for the non-pulmonologists out there). As if the cars, bikes on the sidewalks, and lack of sidewalks were impediments enough, I’ve got to breath air reminiscent of 18th century London. Thanks.
