The entrance to the new Art School & the gallery space

The new building for the Manchester School of Art is spectacular. We moved in in January and last week we finally got to see the huge gallery space finished. With this has come the opportunity for third year students to pitch ideas for how they would like to make use of specific large spaces within the gallery for the 2013 degree show (as well as the allocated spaces provided per student).

Three projection doors which are normally kept closed, dividing the gallery and studio.

There are three HUGE walls in the gallery which divide the gallery and the ground floor studio which can open and become walls for projecting images onto. I proposed an idea for an animated floral design which will move like a breeze is hitting it, and on Thursday I found out that my pitch was chosen for one of the three walls! It is such an exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to get started on the design for it. It’s going to be a big challenge but I know I can pull it off.

Another Textile designer off the same course as myself whose pitch was chosen, is Melissa Baggaley (www.melissabaggaley.tumblr.com). Melissa’s work combines weave with foiling, I won’t given too much away here, so you must come and check both of our big pieces out!
