Evolve DLC controversy 'is a good thing', Take-Two CEO believes
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has acknowledged the "controversy" around Evolve's DLC plans - even going so far as to say that "controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing".
"There was some controversy stirred up by an online post. And I guess, you know, controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing," Zelnick said during the firm's Q3 earnings call last night.
"People can argue about the business model. I think we're delivering a fantastic title that's well worth what consumers will pay for it and all signs are extraordinarily positive."  Despite remaining positive, though, Zelnick believes it's too early to start considering Evolve a success.
"I never like to claim success before it's occurred," he continued. "This looks to be a good news event. I'm going to leave it at that. Hopefully in our next call we'll have great news to report. But certainly the title won Best of Show at both E3 and Gamescom - that's never been done as far as we know in the same year, and the buzz is massive. So we'll wait till consumers tell us what they think, and all our body parts are crossed around here."
Evolve faced criticism last month after it was revealed that players would be able to purchase a range of new characters, monsters and skins shortly after launch.
"A lot of folks seem to be under the impression that we've got all this content done and we shave off a hunk to sell separately," developer Turtle Rock responded. "That just isn't the case."
Evolve launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC next Tuesday, February 10.
