Ask people who have visited Tuscany to recommend a quaint city. Most will probably tell you about Lucca, Pisa or Florence. I'd like to introduce you to the former.
Lucca is located at the foot of the Apuan Alps, near the coast of Versilia. It has well-preserved Renaissance walls that encircle its historic center and cobblestone streets, a beautiful square built on the remains of a Roman amphitheatre (Piazza dell'Anfiteatro), two towers, and several lovely religious buildings like the Church of San Michele in Foro and the Basilica of San Frediano.
