As you know, I love estate sales and repurposing tired furniture into something beautiful. I have always enjoyed rocking chairs and knew I needed one for my front porch (I definitely want two when I have a bigger porch).
I had a weekday off a few months ago and the stars aligned and there was an estate sale on a Wednesday! I knew there was a rocking chair after looking though the picture online and crossed my fingers no one snagged it before I arrived. It was in ROUGH shape and needed some love.
The chair was marked $20 and I knew I couldn’t pass it up. However, when I went to pay with my debit card the employee said cash only. I was devastated because I only had $15 on me. The guy was very understanding and made the deal!!
I couldn’t wait to get started, so I laid down a moving blanket in my living room, turned on HGTV and spent the entire afternoon hand sanding….yes you read that right, I hand sanded all those nooks and crannies. I bought a small sample size of, you guessed it, WHITE. I love my neutrals and thought the white would really pop and look crisp. Although it was a tedious project, it is the best way to spend a day off and to have a brand new rocking chair for $15, you can’t beat that.
Here is the finished product on Brent's front porch! Now all it needs is a decorative pillow, I'm thinking monogrammed burlap :)
