Matte nails are something I love wearing but I don’t do regularly because of the shorter wear time and the tendency to lose its matte-ness over the week so I was really looking forward to putting the limited edition Essie Cashmere Mattes collection to the test and seeing how it would fare.
Created from semi-satin finish and reflective micro-pearls, they add a rich, soft-spun effect and provide just the right touch of season-less chic.
Wrap Me Up is described as a ‘whisper soft pink’, All Eyes On Nudes, a ‘camel-hued neutral tone’, Just Stitched is a ‘warm pearly-plush pink’, Comfy in Cashmere is classed as a ‘mauve with deep velvet undertones’, Coat Couture, a ‘sultry satin greige beneath deep purple shimmer’ and finally, Spun In Luxe is a ‘sophisticated matte blue-black’.
As the formula does feature micro-pearls (which look gorgeous on the nail), the finish of these polishes is a soft matte which looks sophisticated on the nail but never dull, which some matte nail polishes tend to be and this lovely finish is kept throughout the wear time. Never does it become too matte or glossy and feel of the finish is comfortable and not dry on the nail.
Application wise, as usual with most Essie polishes, it glides on beautifully with some slight variation throughout the shades but overall, the formula is great as it’s neither too thick or thin, making it easy to work with and being a matte finish, it dries quite fast and you’re able to really tell when they’re ready for the next coat and/or touch dry so you can then go about doing your business without running the risk of ruining your new manicure.
Most matte nail polish wearers would be aware that many matte nail polishes don’t last chip free for as a long as a traditional nail polish would so to increase wear time, Essie suggests to use a base coat and to apply 3 coats of color. If you love these nail polish shades but not the matte finish, simply use a top coat over it and that will also provide you with a longer wear time!
I followed the base coat and 3 coats of polish rule and found that on my nails, the polish lasted a good week before any chips began to be too noticeable (do keep in mind that I’m not too heavy on my hands throughout the week). However, as the formula is fast drying, any chips can be concealed in a matter of seconds so with a little touch up, you can increase the polishes’ wear time. Personally, a week’s wear for a matte polish is fantastic in my eyes!
