Enhanced Use of Gutenberg Blocks

Posted on the 12 October 2019 by Hmcurator

I had written back in February about how I had had problems with the new WordPress block editor, Gutenberg, and about how I overcame these problems by changing all my content to “Custom HTML” blocks, with “More” blocks as required. I have now gone back through the 425 posts that make up the Mercheum Blog and made better use of some of the other block types available by default.

In addition to the “Custom HTML” and “More” blocks, I am now using “Heading”, “Image”, a couple of “List” and a couple of “Quote” blocks. For my year-end summary posts, I am using the very cool “Media & Text” blocks (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). I even used a YouTube “Embed” block in a post from November of 2018!

I am working on Gutenberg blocks on the 157 pages that make up the Harvey Mercheum website as I convert exhibit printouts to PDFs. Unfortunately, this project has stalled, and little progress has been made since my last update.

I have mentioned WP Engine‘s online magazine, Torque, before. Back in June, they posted about their experiences with Gutenberg, you can read the post here:
