Engagement Invitations: A Bride's Journey

By Christyo8 @CTDESIGNSINC

Hello everyone!
These past few weeks have been very hectic but fun!  Over Memorial Day Weekend, our families decided to celebrate our engagement by throwing us a party.  I was tasked with making the invitations.  I initially thought that wouldn’t be a problem since I’m pretty crafty and enjoy doing that sort of thing.  However, the more I thought about it, the more it stressed me out. I wanted to make an invitation that incorporate some photos from the proposal but I wasn’t sure what kind of wording to use.  I decided to turn to Google to search for some images, but ultimately I ended up on Etsy.
Etsy has so many shops with many different options, there were fancy invitations, invitations that looked more like save the date cards, semi-formal invitations, endless possibilities but none of them seem right for me…until I came across this one.

Engagement Invitations: A Bride's Journey

This design is created by PARTYBOXDESIGN on Etsy

I absolutely love the print and the colors.  It was elegant, yet casual and whimsical at the same time, which was the look I was going for. Since I was too late in the game to order these and I decided to try and make my own using this as inspiration. I turned to Microsoft Word to help me get started.  I found the engagement photos I wanted to use, picked out the fonts, and used the wording that appeared in the invite above,  Here’s what I came up with:
Engagement Invitations: A Bride's Journey

I used landscape orientation and divided the page in half and copied the design to the other side so when it printed I could just cut them in half.  I ended up going to Kinkos to print the invitations, and used a laser printer since I had photos. We bought colorful envelopes to stuff them into and they were mailed out the next day.
This experience taught me if you really want something, you’ll make it happen--- literally make it happen! I really wanted this invitation to look a certain way and make it personal with the photos.  I didn’t use any fancy program to create this, just good old Microsoft Word.  I dove in, got creative and ended up making something I was really liked.
Until next time, take care!  -- Michelle
