EmojInterview is a new feature here in Little Book Star where I interview booklovers from around the world using emojis. It’s just like a regular interview, but I think the emojis makes them more fun!
First up is one of my favorite booktubers, Kassidy from Traveling Through Pages! You guys seriously need to check out her channel. She has fantastic videos and her book hauls are epic! I love how she’s enthusiastic about books, and just by watching her videos gets me out from my reading slump.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your book tube?
Of course! I live in the state of Louisiana, I am 19 years old, and a freshman in college. I am majoring in Biochemistry. Although I love science, I recently discovered I also have a passion for reading! Because I started reading so much and accumulated a ton of books, I felt like I should do something more productive with that part of my life. Therefore, in June of 2013, I started a BookTube channel! On my channel, I review (mostly) Young Adult fiction books. I also do book hauls, fun tags, and monthly reading wrap-ups that include what I plan to read for the next month. I occasionally talk about TV shows and movies as well. Making videos has been such an incredible experience for me, and the BookTube community is so welcoming and friendly, I couldn’t ask for anything better.
What or who got you into reading?
Throughout elementary and middle school, I never read that much. I would read books for class and occasionally a Junie B. Jones book for fun. In middle school I read series like Gossip Girl and The Clique. I totally skipped over the Harry Potter thing (I was afraid of big books), which is very unfortunate. At the start of high school.. prepare yourself.. I read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. Of course, that got me into reading. I was obsessed with that series, and it opened me up to the world of YA and paranormal books. The next year, my English teacher assigned us to read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which opened up my mind to more dystopian and science fiction books. I could not believe there were so many different and awesome books in the world, so my reading took off from there!
How many books do you own?
I own about 526 books.. I’m starting to run out of room! It has only taken me about 2 years to accumulate all of those, which scares me a little.
What’s the best thing about being a book tuber?
The best thing is by far the community. Between other book tubers, book bloggers, and just people who watch BookTube videos, I have made so many friends around the world. I really feel like I found where I belong. It’s such an amazing feeling to be surrounded by so many people who share the same passion as you. I have literally made best friends through BookTube. I’m so excited because a ton of us are all going to Book Expo America in NYC in May of this year. It is going to be so incredible meeting all of my friends in person and sharing in such a fantastic experience. Creating a BookTube channel has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Have you ever thought about becoming a book blogger?
I definitely have. I debated whether to do that or create a YouTube channel. Honestly, I thought creating a blog would be too confusing, uploading videos is way easier, haha! I then found out making videos isn’t THAT easy, but I think it’s definitely simpler than having a blog. I also felt like I could express myself better through talking rather than writing. It takes a lot of skill to write informative and meaningful reviews! I’ve always read book blogs, but never understood how they worked with followers and everything. Maybe when I get some free time over the summer, I might create a blog to supplement my channel!
What would you do if Book Outlet were to close?
It would probably be a blessing in disguise! I spend way too much money on that website. I can’t help it, they have such good deals! I would be sad, but then get over it when I realized how much money I had saved.
Would you rather have all of your favorite books set on fire, or have them all safe but full of leeches?
Such a cruel question, I am going to answer it though. I am going to say that I would rather set them on fire, as long as I don’t have to watch it! The idea of leeches in my books creeps me out to the max!
Three words that best describes your booktube channel?
Informative. Diverse. Welcoming.
I try to give as much information as I can in a concise way, and I attempt to discuss many genres. I want all of my viewers to feel like I am a friend telling them about books, feel free to talk to me, and comfortable telling me their thoughts and opinions. I love when people comment, and I really try to reply to every one. I get so many great book recommendations and ideas through my viewers’ comments. I feel so happy and satisfied seeing such an abundance of people excited about reading.
Thank you so much for your time, Kassidy!
