DESCRIPTION:
The City of Grand Junction is now accepting applications to fill current vacancies and create a pool for future vacancies. The Grand Junction Fire Department is the largest career fire department between Denver and Salt Lake City. The GJFD is a self-sufficient organization providing a variety of services. The department serves 649 square miles of Mesa County and is also the area’s ambulance provider. The department is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to provide quality care to a varied population in a dynamic and demanding environment. GJFD operates a progressive Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system leaving you as the patient care decision maker. In conjunction with local hospitals, GJFD was awarded the American Heart Association Gold Standard for identifying “STEMI’s” in the field.
DUTIES:
Grand Junction Fire Department EMTs are assigned to an ambulance working under the general supervision of a Shift Officer. EMTs provide immediate response to emergency and non-emergency calls including minor injuries, sudden illness, and casualties arising from road accidents, criminal violence, fires and other incidents. They are part of a two-person ambulance crew and work with their partner to perform emergency medical interventions within guidelines of certification; transport patients to the hospital; prepare, submit and maintain reports on EMS activities, incidents, accidents and other related information; operate, maintain and inspect emergency response equipment and vehicles; perform station maintenance; participate in required training; obtain and maintain Mesa County Protocol status; participate in public relations; perform other duties of a similar nature.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Colorado or National Registry EMT – at time of hire
- CPR certificate – at time of hire
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age – at time of hire
- Must be able to distinguish red and green
- Minimum vision 20/30
- Candidates currently on Mesa County Protocols preferred
Primary functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for performing heavy, moderate or light lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; operating emergency medical equipment.
