Ellana's Intensive Blend Loose Powder Mineral Foundation is their best-selling product, and for good reason. I've been wearing it all weekend! This foundation provides medium coverage in a long-wearing formula with a silky matte finish.
Ellana has an impressive range range of colors, from light to deep, serving both warm and cool undertones. I've found my match in Hazelnut Latte, a warm medium. (Don't you love these delicious names?) If you don't know your shade you can even get free samples; pay only the shipping fee!
The foundation looks too light on first application, partly because it's absolutely matte. But as my natural oils blend with the powder it becomes a perfect shade match and transforms into a fresh, dewy look that is very natural -- my favorite finish!
The foundation is housed in a sturdy acrylic jar, enclosed in a classy black box. Powder is dispensed through a small hole. The powder is finely milled and silky; fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin. It also photographs well despite containing oxides.
Now it may be fragrance-free, but by its nature application of mineral makeup kicks up a lot of powder -- that unfortunately often finds itself irritating my nostrils. A calm buffing in of the powder works better to avoid this than haphazardly swiping the kabuki brush around the face. It's less messy this way too!
What I love about this foundation is how quickly and easily it is to use. A few swirls and redness is minimized, oil mattified. Hardly any blending needed! It's so easy to apply, you can do it in the dark
The powder doesn't feel too heavy, but you can definitely feel it sitting on your skin. I suppose this is unavoidable in a foundation so long-wearing with great oil control properties (at least, on my oily-combination skin). After 6 hours it was still dewy and not oily. I reapply once in 10 hours -- have I told you how easy it is to retouch with this? I don't retouch liquid foundation because it's just too much work but with powder this fine, oh wow it's so simple. Dry-skinned folks won't have it so easy, but appropriately hydrated and moisturized, even dry skin will look amazing with this.
