Valentine’s Day is SUNDAY! And it just isn’t as romantic without lovely conversations over a good glass of wine or cocktail. Since this year’s theme was roses, flowers were needed for a cocktail especially made for a day of Love. And so the Elderflower Grapefruit Fizz was created, the perfect compliment to this romantic cookies and roses Valentine’s day inspiration.St. Germaine and elderflower flavors are having a serious moment. I mean if you’ve tasted it in a cocktail, you can understand our love for this floral, subtly sweet drink. The mixer of choice; a sparkling grapefruit juice. The elderflower liqueur sweetens the grapefruit’s bitterness ever so slightly, making it the perfect cocktail for those of us who don’t love overly sugary drinks, i.e me. To finish off the already pretty pink cocktail, I rimmed the glasses with hibiscus flavored sugar crystals.
If flavored sugar crystals aren’t readily available near you, place sugar of choice in a small plastic bag with a few drops of your flavored extract and two drops of pink food coloring. I had these hibiscus flavored flower sugar crystals on hand from a goodie bag, received at the NY Wine + Food Festival and was excited by the extra floral taste it gave these cocktails. But sugars flavored in a berry or rose extract would be just as yummy.
One sip and you’ll be just as hooked as I was. It’s actually become my new favorite cocktail, especially for these bitter winter months. But seriously how pretty do these look, they are just so perfect for Valentine’s day don’t you think? Your gal pals will definltey fall in love with them!
Wishing everyone a Valentine’s weekend filled with LOTS of love! Because LOVE and the weekend totally deserves a beautiful and delicious cocktail.Elderflower Grapefruit Fizz Cocktail
