Yesterday at 8.30pm all over the world people switched off their lights for 60 minutes to join Earth Hour 2013. My kids are fully aware of the necessity and turned off all the lights at 7 pm already, just to make sure we were on time. This meant my husband had to prepare our 4- course dinner (for 6 guests) in a dark kitchen and was told off every time the light in the fridge was switching on when opening it. By the time we had finished our first course (amazingly good considering it was prepared in the dark), Earth Hour 2013 was over and the children had made a map with all the houses in the neighborhood that did not comply and kept their lights on. They can expect a note to remind them next year.
It makes me feel happy to see that my children are so engaged. Next year I will just tell them that knocking on the bathroom door to tell guests off for switching on the light, may just be a little too much.
