Sharing my favorite images from the early days of photography...
Title: Mt. Ushba at Sunrise, Central Caucasus
Date: ca. 1889
Photographer: Vittorio Sella (1859-1943)
Process: gelatin silver print
Note: Sella was an Italian photographer and mountaineer, the first person to climb the Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn in the winter. He also made ascents in Alaska (Mount Saint Elias), Africa (the Rwenzori), and the Himalayas (K2 and the Karakoram). One mountain in the Caucasus was named after him. His photos are considered some of the finest ever taken.
