Dutch Skaters Get Out Their Boards For First Ever Amsterdam Skate Week

By Amsterdam City Tours

613691Step aside, cyclists. Because starting Monday, Amsterdam is the city of skaters.

Amsterdam Skate Week kicks off 5 August and will feature the top skaters from the Netherlands and neighboring countries all the way through Saturday 10 August.

You'll see some of the wickedest moves as skaters compete for a total of €4,500 worth of prizes. Each day offers up something new: the miniramp session on Wednesday, Street Jam on Thursday in a secret location in the city center, a day at Skatepark Amsterdam on Friday complete with barbecue and DJ, and Saturday's Best Trick Contest followed by the awards ceremony. Cash prizes of €500 are on the line at each event.

The events will be taking place between Skatepark Amsterdam and The Student Hotel (which is - as expected - located near a number of Amsterdam's colleges and universities). For the non-skaters, there's also a video contest and a photo contest that span the whole week. Winners will be showcased at the exhibition on Saturday.

There's also an expo at Tom's Skateshop on Thursday and plenty of time throughout the week to skate or shoot around Amsterdam.

Lipton Brisk is partnering with Tacky, iboardcast.com, The Student Hotel, and True Skateboard Magazine to bring this event to Amsterdam for its very first edition.

Photographers and videographers register for free. €25 gets riders registered and includes free meals from Monday through Wednesday and access to all the skating events. Visitors get in free and anyone registered gets a wristband, which means free food and drink all week long.
