(Into The) Atmosphere – Dusted
Dusted (@totallydusted), the new side project of Holy Fuck member Brian Borcherdt and producer Leon Taheney, will be releasing their debut album Total Dust, on July 10th. The sound is quite a departure from the electronic realm that Borcherdt has grown accustomed to as writer and performer for Holy Fuck. This outfit is much more minimalistic, with haunting falsetto vocals and reverb drenched guitar. Recorded in a garage, Taheney (Final Fantasy, Rituals) definitely achieved a lo-fi, yet readily accessible sound.
Standout cuts include “Pale Light” and “Low Humming”, which evoke a melancholy, contemplative feeling. The fuzzy guitar tones are accentuated tastefully by light accompanying instrumentation, sometimes featuring a violin or tambourine as the only other sound present. Borcherdt’s voice is in fine form, lamenting with a raw, emotive howl throughout. The album will be released on Polyvinyl in the US and Hand Drawn Dracula in their native Canada. You can catch the band in New York at Cake Shop on July 12 and Glasslands on July 15.
