I really do not anticipate the Pirates missing the playoffs this season. They seem to always bounce back right about the time people are ready to count them out. If I had to sum up the season in one word, I might choose "Resilient".
However, if the Pirates end the losing streak, but somehow miss the playoffs this season, is it possible that Clint Hurdle and Neal Huntington's jobs could be in jeopardy?
My first inclination is no. Expectations among fans were to break the 20 year losing streak, but playoffs really weren't predicted by anybody. So in the event the team does "collapse", they've still outperformed expectations and continue to improve every season.
On the other hand, if the Pirates were to collapse now, it would be the third consecutive season they've collapsed in August and September. At some point, the manager and/or the GM have to take the blame for not fixing a recurring epidemic.
So what are your thoughts? IF they dreadful collapse were to rear it's ugly head, would the Pirates brass be in trouble?
