Obviously, when one of our perennial favorite bands Yellow Ostrich announced that they would be releasing a new record, Cosmos, on Feb 25th, we were excited. We had no idea how excited we ought to be, however, until we heard their newest single, “Any Wonder.” Now, we basically are salivating with anticipation. “Any Wonder” takes everything that we’ve loved about Yellow Ostrich to this point — the subtle layering, spectacular hooks and Alex Schaaf’s uniquely powerful vocals and adds, well, just adds more. The track has an unrelenting hugeness that we’ve not heard yet from the Brooklyn band, while still maintaining the intimate fragility that made us fall in love with them in the first place. If this track is any indication, and we think it is, Cosmos will be a huge and endlessly interesting step forward for the band.
