Do you love the Indiana dunes area? Have you ever wondered about the history of the Indiana dunes region?

If you have answered “Yes!” to both of these questions, then you will want to take a peek at Dreams of Duneland by Kenneth J. Schoon!

This isn’t a book with images of the lake in all seasons and that’s it. Of course, there are plenty of those, but when it says “a pictorial history” it really means it.

Many of you may already know my love for Indiana history and of place but this is so much more than a history book. The history of the dunes is one of many parts of this 270 page work.

There’s also birds, amphibians, reptiles, fungus, and mammals. Did you know there are at least 46 species of mammals here?

Every image is gorgeous and full color. They really help tell the story of the dunes region!

Dreams of Duneland contains so much more. Seasonal activities and attractions, historic events, art and artists, camp, it truly is a wealth of information.

I am enjoying reading about the history of the dunes. Did you know a silent movie was filmed there back in 1912? That’s just one of many unique facts you’ll pick up in this book!

Also: Kenneth J. Schoon is an Indiana author. He’s not only been on the board of the Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center but also has served as president! In other words, he knows this area.

little Indiana received a copy of Dreams of Duneland by Kenneth J. Schoon by IU Press to use but was not in any way required or even requested to review it! However, she found it so amazing she simply had to share. Opinions remain hers and hers alone.
