Today and tomorrow, Downtown Festival will overtake the small venues of the Lower East Side, giving you the chance to see some of the biggest rising stars of the indie scene in an intimate setting. Over 50 artists will appear on the stages of Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, Cake Shop, Tammany Hall, Element and Capitale. Be sure to get there early to see the opening bands, too, as you’ll be sure to discover some great upcoming talent! This year, the festival is also expanding to six other metropolitan downtown areas, including Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, LA, Denver, and Las Vegas.
The Bowery venues, Cake Shop and Pianos have some of the heavier hitters, including some of my favorites Sky Ferreira, DIIV, and Autre Ne Veut, but if you’re looking for more folk-driven sets like San Fermin, The Chevin or Ducktails, check out Rockwood Music Hall’s lineup — for hip hop and rap, try Capitale on Friday or Tammany Hall on Saturday.
