“Dog Magic” Treats Dogs to Interactive Fun

By David13676 @dogspired

DogMagic“Dog Magic” is one of the Nina Ottosson Interactive Dog Games. I was able to review this game from the Company of Animals and test it out with my dog.

The toy is a relatively easy game to play. According to the manufacturer, the game is made to stimulate a dog’s brain by dislodging “bones” to access hidden treats. You can put treats under one or more bones to vary the difficulty of the game. By switching the location of the treats, you encourage your dog to focus and to use his or her nose to seek out the waiting treasures.

The purpose of the game is to hide treats under three or four of the bone compartments, and watch as he or she turns over the appropriate compartments to find them.  After your dog is confident about uncovering the right bones, you can reduce the number of treats while increasing the number of bones until only one or two treats are hidden. Repeat, and vary the location of the treats.

After I placed treats under a few of the compartments, my dog Tasha sniffed around enthusiastically, trying to find where the smell was coming from. Recognizing the scent, she drooled, she sniffed, and she slobbered around the plastic toy. In a minute or two, she successfully nudged over a bone and found one of the smelly treats. Wagging her tail, she quickly tried to find another one. After a few false tries, she found the rest of the treats under the bone compartments. It was a little difficult for her to push over the plastic covers, but the more we played, the better she got. We were both entertained. I found the toy to be a lot of fun for my dog, keeping her encouraged until she got tired of the game and proceeded to take away and chew up one of the covers.

The Company of Animals has been marketing these interactive toys since 1984 as a way of training dogs. All of the products are tested to ensure their effectiveness, quality, and value. “Dog Magic” costs between $29.00 and $34.00, depending on the retailer.
