Do More Than The Minimum

By Jessicavenoy @lovelyjesscuh
YOU GUYS. It is JUNE. JUNE! 2017 is almost halfway over and I just can't wrap my mind around that. I feel like I've changed a ton this year...for the better. But that's another post for another day. Today I want to talk about doing more than the minimum.
Do More Than The Minimum
I feel like I am qualified to talk about this because I take a lot of pride in doing more than the minimum. When I take on a new project or decide to start working toward a new goal, I am ALL in. I go above and beyond...I'm not a fan of half-assing things. The way I see it, if you're going to put effort toward something, you might as well put in ALL of your effort and do it right. It might take more time, but it'll pay off in the long run.
Take my whole career changing situation. In 2015 I decided that I wanted to pursue speech-language pathology. I chose to get a second bachelor's degree because I knew my first bachelor's degree's GPA wasn't stellar/competitive enough to get me into a master's program. I wanted to take an extra year to GRIND. I threw myself into taking 4-5 classes each semester, becoming an undergraduate research assistant, shadowing SLPs on the regular, volunteering at a local hospital, and reaching out to my dream job to build a connection.
I had a goal in mind and I was going to make it happen no matter what it took. I was willing to put in the work to make everything happen. Was the last year and a half hard? ABSOLUTELY. But was it worth it? You bet! The journey that is grad school begins in August, and I am confident in starting my program because I built a solid foundation doing more than the minimum to get me where I am today.
How can you expect to reach milestones if you don't give more than the minimum? Giving more than the minimum takes you places that you didn't even imagine existed. It helps build your character. It pushes you to be your best self! I saw Lewis Howes post this: "The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your effort. Great effort = great life. Average effort = average life."
Are you giving more than the minimum?
