It’s that time of year for the children to return to school and I know my secondary school age child is half looking forward yet half dreading her return as her night time socialising is going to have to be put on hold, yes the dreaded homework is to return.
While I accept that some amount of homework is needed I believe there has to be the right balance? I too have had to give up evenings to help with homework; it can become very frustrating when she has been given 3-4 assignments that need to be done within a certain number of days, as family trips and visits are cut short.
It can become a battle to get her to sit at the kitchen table; she wants to be out with friends or going for a hot soak in the bath. I forever hear myself saying “Is your homework finished, let me see”.
Do kids get too much homework?
I do remember having some homework myself when I was of school age, yet do not remember receiving the large amounts as my daughter does.
It can become close to ten in the evening and she is still sat researching, writing. This cannot be good for her sleep pattern, worrying of she got the answers right, wrote enough.
