It's best if you have a nice thick hem like this for your mittens.
I simply drew up a mitten for a template. If you need one, just google 'mitten template' to find one to trace.
I folded the sweater in half, then pinned it above the hem and cut around my template.
Once I had as many as I wanted, I was ready to sew them up.
Since you don't want the sweater to fray, you need to be careful and slow when sewing around the perimeter of your mittens. Remember to leave open the top.
Aren't they cozy? I used a large needle and some twine for hanging them on my tree.
So simple!
