Several months ago I shared a project with you that I very proud of: my first 'big' DIY. Now I know that there are some major do-it-yourself-ers out there that could do this in their sleep, but for me this little coffee table project was a personal triumph.
I had purchased this table for $5 outside at a Salvation Army sale, and it had sat around the apartment for a year or so while I figured out how I wanted to paint it. Originally I had thought that I wanted to paint it in a mosaic style, but as they say: Our strength lies in knowing our weakness. I decided to go with a simple cream and black color scheme, playing off the French upholstered chair that my mother had bought me for my birthday. I purposely placed a wider black stripe in the center of the table to trick the eye into staring at it longer while also bringing balance (since perfect evenly spaced lines would have ended with opposite colors at each end).
I absolutely love the end result, and have since placed a gray and cream carpet with an oversized flower motif under the table. To make the process as easy as possible I used spray paint for outdoor furniture. By doing that I ensured that the table would be protected from any sweating glasses or liquid spills. I then covered the entire surface with a clear stain. See my steps below!
