I'm a bit of a history nerd, so I tend to be one of those people who always thinks in terms of what might have happened in this particular location years, decades, centuries, or millennia ago. I try to imagine what life was like and how things might have looked.
It was for people like me that the Anne Frank House created the new Anne's Amsterdam App.
Available for the iOS, Android, and WP7, Anne's Amsterdam gives users the chance to experience Amsterdam as World War Two icon Anne Frank would have known it.
The app will take you on a scavenger hunt through the city to collect stories, images, and other items. All the while, you'll get an idea of how Amsterdam changed as a result of the Second World War.
You'll see where Anne played, went to school, and posed for the many photos her father took of her. The tour includes one-of-a-kind war photos, film footage, and personal stories. A total of 30 historical locations are included in the app.
Anne's Amsterdam is a result of the hard work, passion, and love put into it in a collaborative effort by the Anne Frank House, LBi Netherlands, and Repudo.
This past June, just a little over a month after its release, the app was given honors at the International Design & Communication Awards (IDCA), sharing the title of "Best App" with Art Graphique et Patrimoine's Jumieges 3D, L'Abbaye de Jumièges (France) and The Minneapolis Institutes of Arts' VERSO: Unveiling the backstory (United States).
For anyone interested in discovering Anne's Amsterdam, the app is a free download, available at your mobile device's webshop.
