Dirty Girl

By Jessicavenoy @lovelyjesscuh
I'm talking about the Dirty Girl Mud Run! On Saturday me & Asriel (one of Adam's sisters & a good friend of mine) participated in a 5K. A mud-based 5K...and let me tell y'all, it was a blast! The Dirty Girl Run is a women's only race. It's not competitive (aka they don't time you) and the proceeds go to the national breast cancer foundation.
After doing this race and The Color Run a few months ago, I will probably never do a "normal" race again. I'm all about the obstacles and getting dirty...it just makes the running seem not as difficult for me, because you have something to look forward to rather than just straight up running.
Dirty Girl
The race was on a ranch in Dade City, which is about an hour from where we live. We had never been to Dade City, but we fell in absolute love. Like pack up and move next week love. It was so country feeling...open space and there were hills. HILLS! Do you know how rare that is in Florida? It is flat as a board in most areas here so we were in awe over this little town.

There was about 2,000 women total who ran the race. The cool thing is that runners go in waves, so everyone isn't scrambling around the course at the same time. The obstacles started off kinda slow, but as they progressed more mud was involved. Anytime there was mud, Asriel & I made sure to take advantage of it by rolling in it way more than necessary. And chucking handfuls of it at each other.

After the race we headed over to the rinse/changing tent. Obviously, only women were allowed in the tent. We walked in and it was a big area with tons of water hoses to rinse off with. Oh and lots of naked old women...yeah, we didn't sign up for that. Seriously, the older the woman, the less shame she had about stripping completely down in a tent full of strangers. It was...interesting. Asriel & I decided to just rinse off the majority of the mud that we were covered in and book it out of the awkward tent. We just laid in the sun in our race clothes and air dried...it worked for us.

I headed over to the beer table and got my free post-race beer. Hello...mud, beer & sunshine makes for a perfect Saturday!
Another cool thing about this race was the fact that a lot of breast cancer survivors ran it. There was such a variety of women running, which was such an inspiration. I think pretty much anyone can accomplish this particular 5K! Runners have the option of going around obstacles that they don't want to/can't complete. I'd highly suggest looking to see if there is a Dirty Girl event near your city :) You'll have a blast!
Oh but some sad news...after the race, I went over to Adam's and visited with him & Buck (his puppy). Turns out a few hours after I left Buck got out of the screened in porch and ran off :( We still haven't found him, but we've been looking, asking neighbors & we posted signs all over the neighborhood. We're praying that someone scooped him up and will call us soon...if you could keep us in your thoughts I would really appreciate it!
