Dinner in Joplin

By Ofanselm @ofanselm

On thursday, Peter called me up to ask if we wanted to go on another impromptu family outing. After stopping in Diamond, MO for business, we took a trip to Joplin to catch a late lunch/early dinner. We drove around for a bit to look for a restaurant that a friend had recommended, only to realize it didn't exist anymore. But once we hit the downtown area (right where the tornado stopped last May), we found a little deli, just opened up.

I wish I'd gotten some pictures of the town. There are some parking lots with bits of rubble and demolished buildings scattered around, but for the most part what we drove through had been completely rebuilt. Brand new homes surrounded by stripped trees. It's amazing that the huge mark that tornado left on the town only one year ago is now barely perceptible to a stranger driving through.
