Did NSA Had to Do Anything With Heartbleed Bug?

Posted on the 12 April 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

In a new report, Bloomberg claims that NSA knew about Heartbleed all along for almost 2 years and kept it a secret from developers to use it to steal user data and passwords. Just 2 hours after this report went live, NSA issued a statement via its’ official Twitter account, denying this allegation. Surely, NSA just wanted to get the word of innocence out in the open, but this quick response only arose everyone suspicion.

Statement: NSA was not aware of the recently identified Heartbleed vulnerability until it was made public.

Obviously, if anyone loved internet security holes and stealing user data, NSA will be on top of that list. Then again, we can’t really blame them without having valid proof. Bloomberg report alone was made based on information they’ve gathered from what they call as “two people familiar with the matter.” If one of those people are Edward Snowden, I will take this report for granted without hesitation. Snowden has a reputation of exposing NSA secrets publicly, not hiding his identity like this, besides he use much more valid news sources like The Guardian to release news. And, last time I checked Snowden is the only man on top of NSA’s most wanted list.

I think it’s safe to assume that NSA truly had no idea about Heartbleed. Even if they did, they would have done a much better job of hiding this security flaw and making it public. Now, I know you must have strong opinions on this matter. Let them all out in the comments.
