First flown in 1927, the Lockheed Vega gained fame for its use by many record-breaking pilots who appreciated the rugged construction and long-range abilities.  Originally built with a wooden plywood fuselage, the Vega 5C was a version produced by the Detroit Aircraft Corporation utilizing an aluminum fuselage.  Only ten were built and this is the only flying Vega anywhere in the world.  The DL designation stands for “Detroit Lockheed”  This aircraft was acquired by its current owner in 1995 and still carries its original 1933 registration.
