Joey Porter whose charges include aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and terroristic threats after being arrested on Sunday night, according to a report written by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Here is a transcript of that report that includes a statement written by the Pittsburgh Police on Sunday night: Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said security guards at a South Side bar summoned police about 9:30 p.m. for an unruly customer, who turned out to be Porter. She confirmed the coach was arrested.
According to a statement released by Pittsburgh Police late Sunday night, security guards at The Flats on Carson summoned a Pittsburgh Police officer, who was working at a nearby restaurant, because of an unruly customer who was in the process of assaulting the doorman.
The customer turned out to be Porter.
Porter was taken to Allegheny County Jail, the statement said. His charges include aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and terroristic threats.
This is the third time Porter has been arrested. In December of 2014, he was arrested in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., on a felony warrant for writing a check for non sufficient funds. In 2010, Porter was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and accused of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, though the charges were later dropped.
Steelers Director of Communications Burt Lauten also issued a statement on Sunday night with regards to Porter, the team's outside linebackers coach since 2014.
“We are aware of an incident tonight involving Joey Porter. We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and we will have no further comment until we get more details.”
A Steelers linebacker from 1999-06, Porter helped spearhead Pittsburgh's run to a victory in Super Bowl XL. He recorded 98 career sacks in 13 seasons playing for the Steelers, Dolphins and Cardinals, retiring in 2011.
