Let alone a chance to dress up in a theme! So when my love's 30th birthday landed on same weekend as the Kentucky Derby, there was no question as to what we'd be doing; Off to the races to enjoy The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports! With my prized stud by my side, dressed in our Derby best, we took Chicago's version to Churchill Downs, Arlington Race Track, by storm.
As a southern belle at heart, I love the merriment and formality of Kentucky Derby style. While my instincts told me to go completely wild when hat shopping, the thirty- something, more practical girl chose to keep it simple. Thank goodness I opted for the fascinator; As the windy city's spring breeze brought a whole new meaning to the old Derby expression "Ladies hold on to your hats!" It was more like "Hold down your skirts!"
