Well…if you won’t say it. I’ll go ahead and say it. Rihanna looks amazing in absolutely everything!! And she does it so effortlessly. Oh how I love to hate her. But this post isn’t about my obsession with Rihanna’s style {and body}. Nope. It’s about how she wears denim on demin…and gets away with it!

The Democracy of Denim…

I’ve always been taught to never mix different shades of denim. It was a sure way to get charged {and convicted} with fashion hypocrisy. But it seems Rihanna and many other fashion forward thinkers have taken to the streets for the democracy of denim. And they are doing it in a noble and fierce way. They are “jeaning” it up with dark and light denims — together. And it couldn’t be more fabulous.

Fashion Hypocrisy Exposed

So I was prepared to write this post with tips on how to wear denim on denim. Then a bit of defiance took over my fingers as I typed…erased…and re-typed this post. They are no rules ladies! Spring and Summer is upon us and this fashion ‘thang’ is supposed to be fun, right? I say wear this year’s denim-on-denim fashion trend however you like. But, as the fashion geek I pride myself on being, I must mention some must-have denim pieces for 2014.

“The key to mixing different shades of denim at once comes down to your shoes and handbag. An attention-getting shoe or handbag balances out a ‘heavy’ or ‘jeany’ look — making everything come together flawlessly. ”

Denim on Denim Fashion Trend 2014

Denim overalls. Denim jumpsuits. Denim rompers. They will be hot and heavy this year! They are super easy to style and fun to wear. These one-piece-wonders come in many shades, styles and cuts. Great finds can be found almost every where now for under $100 including: LuLus, Forever21 and H&M.

What do you think about the overall and jumpsuit fashion trends this year? What about the denim-on-denim fashion movement? Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Don’t forget to follow me on pinterest too!
