Delray Restaurant Review: Denise's Foodie Event at DIG Delray

By Take A Bite Out Of Boca @shaywiz
I am decompressing from the past weekend spent in Miami at BlogHer Food. I'm still on such a high from the whole thing I can't even bring myself to give you a recap yet, but I promise by the end of the week I'll tell you all about the friendships, the sponsors, the blogging advice, the food, the parties...

For now, I'm telling you about an event I went to a few weeks back: a tasting dinner at DIG with Denise's Foodie Events. DIG stands for "Doing It Green" and their goal is to provide flavorful food with fresh seasonal ingredients. I've reviewed the restaurant before, but this tasting event was different from an ordinary dining experience. Denise's Foodie Events puts together tasting menus at local restaurants in order to provide people with an opportunity to try a variety of different things from the menu for a great price. The night started with a Welcome Reception Cocktail Hour with a few hor d'oerves — chicken caesar flatbread and the hummus trio (eggplant-pumpkin seed, black bean-chipotle, and basil sun-dried tomato) served with veggie crudités and crispy pita.

Their hummus platter might just be my favorite thing on their menu — I ordered it the last time I was there and practically inhaled every last bite. Funny thing is, it wasn't originally included in our tasting menu and I was a little upset I wouldn't get to experience those delicious flavors again, and then magically it appeared!

After mingling for a bit, we all sat in the dining room and dinner got started. We had a trio of sliders — wagu beef, chicken meatball and black bean, vegan stuffed mushrooms, eggplant rolatini, and vegetable lasagna. The servings weren't huge, but we were definitely all stuffed by the end. The hummus trio is still my favorite thing on their menu, but these were pretty tasty too.

I especially enjoyed the eggplant rolatini with mushrooms, ricotta, basil and sunflower sprouts. Eggplant can be pretty bitter if not cooked properly and this causes a lot of people to dislike it, but I have yet to experience an eggplant dish I didn't like. Guess I've been lucky!

Dessert, as always, was the best. Grand Marnier Chocolate Mousse. Yes, it tasted just as amazing as it sounds. Smooth, rich, creamy — everything you want in a mousse. We also had Key Lime Pie bars, and I liked it! Maybe I'm becoming a fan of this citrusy traditional Florida dessert. There was something about them that wasn't as tart as the norm. The texture was enjoyable too. Not too custardy, and there was a heaping amount of whipped cream on top. The perfect sweet ending...

There is nothing more enjoyable than sitting down to eat with a tableful of foodies. I love being able to share a meal with people who appreciate the flavors, textures, and preparation of each plate that is set down in front of them. Food just tastes better when you're with good company — thanks to Denise's Foodie Events for putting on such a wonderful event!
