Defense for Beginners – The Three B’s

By Meachrm @BaseballBTYard

My son asked me to help out again with his 7 year old team this season.  Another dad who is helping out threw a phrase at the kids the other day that I had never heard off before.  He told them of the

“Three B’s of Defense.”

Before getting into what that means, let me just use this as a reminder that there is always something new to learn about the game.  Even if you know the concept, there is always a better way to explain it or break it down better to young kids.  This is definately an example.

The Three B’s stand for Ball, Base, and Back-Up.

On every single play on defense, every player is doing one of those three things.  They either go for the BALL, go to a BASE, or BACK-UP somewhere.  Standing still is never an option.

Great advice and easily understood no matter how old players are.
